While access to drinking water is one of the basic necessities of life, a number of residents of Kabul’s 15th district say they are facing a shortage of drinking water.
These residents add that to obtain drinking water, they have to walk long distances every day or buy water at a cost, an issue that has made their daily lives extremely difficult.
Baktash, a resident of the 15th district, said: “Before, the taps would run every day, but now water only comes once a week; this has caused a lot of problems, especially in this area where we are facing a severe water shortage.”
Faizkhuda, another resident, said: “There are many problems; in cold weather, we have to stand and wait for our turn to get water.”
Some other residents are calling on officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to pay serious attention to this issue.
Mohammad Sulaiman said: “People are facing a lot of difficulties. They bring water from distant places, for example from the Qasaba Road area and the Panjsad Famili area.”
Zikrullah added: “We are suffering from water problems; when there is no water, we have to buy bottled water in containers for ten Afghanis.”
The shortage of water is one of the ongoing challenges that residents of the capital have long expressed concern about. Previously, residents of the 7th, 6th, and several other districts of Kabul had also complained about a lack of water.
