The family of Salim Paygir, a well-known political analyst, told TOLOnews that his health condition is improving.According to his brother, Paygir has undergone two surgeries so far and remains in a coma.
Karim, Salim Paygir’s brother, said: “I visited Mr. Paygir in person and spoke with his doctors. His health condition is, God willing, improving, but everything is ultimately in God’s hands. He is still unable to speak because he remains in a coma due to the medications.”
Hakim Torsan, another brother, also said: “He is currently hospitalized and in a coma, but I assure you, God willing, his condition is improving day by day.”
Meanwhile, a delegation from the Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, led by Abdul Haq Makhdom, Deputy Minister for Policy and Strategy, along with Zainullah Aaber, Director General of the Minister’s Office, Abdul Rahim Saqib, a senior official at the ministry, and Abdul Mateen Qane, the ministry’s spokesperson, visited Mr. Paygir’s home.
They offered their sympathies to the family, provided financial assistance, and assured them that, if necessary, they would facilitate his treatment abroad.
According to the Interior Ministry’s spokesperson, it is still unclear whether the attack on Mr. Paygir was personally or politically motivated.
Abdul Mateen Qane, spokesperson for the Interior Ministry of the Islamic Emirate, stated: “The nature of the case is still unclear, whether it was personal or political. The investigation is ongoing, and the perpetrators have been arrested. Regardless of who they are, they are enemies of the Afghan people.”
Military experts meanwhile emphasized that ensuring the security of political figures and prominent individuals is essential to maintaining social stability.
They believe the swift response from security institutions in pursuing the case reflects the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to safeguarding all citizens, including analysts and national elites.
Mohammad Zalmai Afghayar, a military affairs expert, said: “In ensuring the security of Afghan citizens, not only the Ministry of Interior but all intelligence and security agencies are responsible, whether it’s for politicians, civilians, or government employees.”
This comes after Salim Paygir, a prominent political commentator, was attacked in an armed assault at his residence on Thursday afternoon last week.
The Ministry of Interior later announced that two individuals had been arrested in connection with the incident and that further investigations are ongoing.
