The Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has announced the distribution of 9 billion Afghanis to orphans, persons with disabilities, and widows over the past five months across the country.

A spokesperson for the ministry added that the third phase of salary disbursement has also begun, and an additional $10 million in humanitarian aid has been provided to them through various organizations.

Faisal Khamoosh, spokesperson for the Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled, said: “Through charitable foundations and institutions, this year, $10 million worth of food and non-food items have been distributed to eligible families.”

Zebo, a 50-year-old woman, has been caring for her four orphaned children for the past ten years. Although she received support from the ministry for four years, the hardship of life forced her to migrate. She has now returned to the country and is asking for greater assistance for her children.

Zebo told TOLOnews: “We ask the Islamic Emirate to also provide employment opportunities for the disabled. I have a family of five. The allowance I receive is not enough. We live in a rented house.”

Reza, a 32-year-old man, lost his right leg in an explosion. Like many others with disabilities, he is requesting more support from the Ministry of Martyrs and Disabled and also from Afghan businesspeople.

Reza said: “We’re raising four children. Please help so my children can go to school, have a good future, and help me find a job too.”

Among the public, there is also widespread respect and sympathy toward families of martyrs and people with disabilities.

Mihan, a Kabul resident, said: “For the sake of this homeland, people have lost their limbs or their lives. The government must support them and their families.”

Shafiqullah, another Kabul resident, said: “We have both national and international businesspeople. They should help orphaned children with their nutrition and education, so they can live a better life.”

According to the ministry’s statistics, 700,000 orphans, persons with disabilities, and widows are registered with the ministry. Of this number:

  • 400,000 are orphans

  • 200,000 are people with disabilities

  • 100,000 are widows
