The human rights organization “Hengaw” has reported that the death sentences of four Afghan citizens were carried out in Iran’s Taybad and Qazvin prisons.

According to the report, the four Afghans, Faiz Mohammad Shekhnayi, Khalid, Khaleq, and Mohammad Ebrahimi, were among six individuals whose executions were carried out.

The report added that Ershad Yarkhoda, a 38-year-old resident of Taybad, along with three Afghan citizens, Faiz Mohammad Shekhnayi, Khalid, and Khaleq, were executed in Taybad Prison in Razavi Khorasan Province. The other two, Saadi Minaei (39, a resident of Qazvin) and Mohammad Ebrahimi (31, from Herat, Afghanistan), were executed in Qazvin Central Prison.

Shir Agha Rohani, a legal expert, said: “Some Afghans who are executed there fall under the responsibility of the Afghan government, which, within the framework of international law, must intervene to prevent the execution of Afghan citizens in Iran.”

In recent years, Iran has become one of the countries where the number of Afghan citizens executed, particularly in eastern and central prisons, has risen.

Experts say that many of those executed are deprived of fair legal defense due to lack of access to legal counsel, psychological pressure during interrogation, and the complexity of legal procedures.

Abdul Shukoor Dadras, another legal expert, stated: “Carrying out executions without fair trials and the presence of legal defense is against international standards, as most of the accused do not enjoy full legal rights.”

Abdul Sadeq Hamidzoy, a political analyst, also said: “Afghan prisoners in Iran have the full right to have the nature of the crime and the evidence clarified, but Iran does not adhere to any legal norms. This is an injustice against Afghans.”

According to recent statistics from Hengaw, nearly 80 Afghan citizens have been executed in Iran since the beginning of this year.
