Pakistan has released 58 Afghan nationals from detention centers this week, the Taliban-run refugees ministry said Thursday, as the country continues to expel undocumented migrants.
The ministry said the individuals had been arrested in various parts of Pakistan and held for periods ranging from one day to two months before being repatriated to Afghanistan.
The ministry did not provide details on the reasons for their arrests, but Afghan migrants are frequently detained in Pakistan for lacking legal residency or identification documents.
The releases come amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban, including recent border clashes. Earlier this month, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the immediate expulsion of all undocumented Afghan nationals.
