Afghan journalist released from police custody in Islamabad

Mohammad Agha Sailani, an Afghan journalist detained by Pakistani police in Islamabad, was released early Thursday.

In a message to Amu, Sailani said he was arrested Wednesday in the Faisal Town area.

“I was held until 2:50 a.m. Thursday in a police detention center,” Sailani said.

Local sources told Amu that Seylani was at risk of forced deportation to Afghanistan.

Pakistani authorities have not commented on the reason for his arrest.

Sources added that due to fears of retaliation, many people have avoided publicly voicing support for the journalist.
