The third edition of the Asian Youth Games officially opened last night in Bahrain with the participation of Afghanistan’s athletic delegation.

The opening ceremony of this prestigious Asian event was hosted by Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain.

Afghan athletes are competing in disciplines including taekwondo, boxing, jujitsu, wushu, wrestling, futsal, kurash, MMA (mixed martial arts), and Muay Thai.

Recently, two Afghan kurash athletes, Yahya Mohammadi and Rohullah Nazari, made history by securing bronze medals in the 65kg and 83kg weight categories, respectively, after defeating their opponents.

According to reports, more than 50 Afghan athletes are competing in over eight sports categories in this tournament.

Coinciding with the kurash team’s success, Afghanistan’s U-17 national futsal team is set to face Uzbekistan in their opening match tomorrow (Friday).

Additionally, over 8,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries are taking part in the Games across 26 sports disciplines.

The competition will continue until October 31 of this year.
