Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Pakistan’s Defense Minister, in his latest remarks, stated that the ceasefire agreement with Afghanistan is conditional, adding that the agreement depends on the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s ability to control opposition groups, those who, according to him, use Afghan soil to launch attacks on Pakistan.

He said that no specific timeline has been set for the ceasefire, and the situation will continue as long as the agreement is not violated.

The Pakistani defense minister added: “This was very clearly spelled out that there won’t be any incursions and TTP will not have any facility on their soil. We kept on repeating.”

Meanwhile, Suhail Shaheen, acting ambassador of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Qatar, stated that the Islamic Emirate has no ties with the activities of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan.

Shaheen added: “We do not allow anyone to misuse Afghan soil to attack Pakistan. We have declared our resolve in this matter; we do not accept any group and do not support anyone.”

Alongside these developments, Stéphane Dujarric, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, as well as the UK and Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Kabul and Islamabad and emphasized the importance of sustaining the agreement and resolving disputes through diplomatic dialogue.

Stéphane Dujarric said: “On Afghanistan and Pakistan, we hope that the ceasefire will hold and that all of the outstanding issues will be dealt with diplomatically.”

These remarks come as the immediate ceasefire, following eight days of clashes between the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and Pakistan, was signed in Doha through the mediation of Qatar and Turkey.
