Local officials in Kandahar say that around 20,000 families have been displaced from Spin Boldak due to clashes between Afghan border forces and Pakistani troops.
Officials added that these families were forced to flee because of Pakistan’s indiscriminate bombings and have sought safety in deserts and other areas where basic living facilities are scarce.
According to them, efforts to provide assistance to the displaced families are ongoing.
Nematullah Olfat, deputy head of the Kandahar Department of Refugees and Repatriation, said: “The Pakistani side carried out brutal bombings in densely populated areas of Spin Boldak. As a result, 20,000 families were displaced, and we are working to assist them.”
The displaced families, who have not yet returned to their homes, say that their houses were destroyed and they suffered significant losses due to Pakistan’s airstrikes.
A resident of Spin Boldak who was displaced by the fighting said: “Yesterday morning, a rocket hit our house and destroyed two rooms, but fortunately, we had already taken the children out early in the morning.”
Another displaced person added: “We have suffered heavy losses. Look at this car, it has been burned. Shops have been severely damaged, and the full extent of the damage is still unknown.”
During the fighting in Spin Boldak, in addition to civilian casualties numbering 210, 80 houses and 50 shops were destroyed, and 10 car dealerships were damaged due to Pakistani shelling and airstrikes.
