The Ministry of Industry and Commerce stated Afghanistan currently exports 20 major products annually to neighboring, regional, and international markets.

According to the ministry, these products include cotton, dried figs, raisins, asafoetida and its seeds, coal, fresh and dried onions, tomatoes, apples, pistachios and almonds, pomegranates, saffron, cumin, grapes, mineral stones, lead, non-alcoholic beverages, energy drinks, and fruit juices.

Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, spokesperson for the Ministry, stated: “These 20 products, which make up 71% of the country’s total exports, are being exported to various countries in the region and around the world.”

Meanwhile, the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment says it has launched major efforts to market Afghan agricultural products.

According to the chamber, Gulf countries, Central Asia, and Europe are now considered promising markets for these exports.

Jan Agha Nawid, spokesperson for the Chamber, said: “The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment has continuously worked and encouraged its members to maintain strong trade relations with various countries, assess international markets, and export Afghan products accordingly.”

Wasim Safi, CEO of the Agriculture and Livestock Chamber, added: “We need to establish processing centers where products can be processed, packaged, and shipped to meet global standards and support exports.”

Economic experts say that expanding processing capacity, improving quality, and adhering to international standards can play a key role in increasing export revenues, creating jobs, and reducing reliance on imports.

They add that with proper investment and strategic policymaking, Afghanistan has the potential to capture a significant share of regional and global markets.
