The leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement, in response to the deportation of Afghan refugees from various parts of Pakistan, stated that on one hand, Afghans are being driven out of their homes, and on the other, the Torkham crossing has been closed to them.

Manzoor Pashteen added that as a result of Pakistan’s policies, displaced Afghans now face numerous difficulties along the way.

He also condemned the targeting of innocent Pashtuns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Mohammad Khan Mohammadzai, an activist for migrant rights, said: “The issue of Afghan refugees is emerging amidst political tensions between Islamabad and Kabul and has taken on a political dimension. This matter is being used as a tool of pressure by the Pakistani government against refugees in the country.”

Meanwhile, several Afghan refugees in Pakistan say they are facing various challenges.

Fazel, an Afghan refugee in Pakistan, said: “Afghan refugees in Pakistan face many problems. They are not allowed to work, and even seeking medical treatment is restricted.”

Nazar, another Afghan refugee in Pakistan, added: “No government is as oppressive as Pakistan. Its policy toward Afghans is cruel and violates international laws.”

On the other hand, Abdul Salam Zaeef, former ambassador of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Islamabad, has urged Afghan refugees to return to their country as soon as possible.

He said: “My advice to refugees is that their future in Pakistan is uncertain and unclear. If they want a better future, they should return to Afghanistan.”

This comes after reports that in some mosques in Pakistan, police have recently announced that anyone who rents a house or shop to Afghan refugees will be considered a criminal by the government.
