Following the removal of the Interpol police structure from the Interior Ministry’s framework, the ministry says it continues regional and international security cooperation through official communications coordinated via the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Interior assured that Afghan soil is not being used against other countries and emphasized cross-border security cooperation with neighboring states.
Abdul Mateen Qani said: “The Islamic Emirate has fulfilled this responsibility (preventing Afghan soil from being used against other countries) in the best possible manner, and we are working to enhance cooperation beyond our borders. Naturally, in cross-border cooperation, we need meetings, coordination, and engagement with regional countries so that they also participate in this process.”
The Interior Ministry spokesman described regional security cooperation, particularly in combating drug trafficking, as highly important.
Qani stated that synthetic drugs are being smuggled from regional countries into Afghanistan and called for greater coordination among regional states in this regard.
He added: “We have worked with regional countries concerning migrant addicts living in those countries, drug smuggling, and even security issues and extremist groups such as Daesh, which operate from neighboring countries and have harmed the region and Afghanistan. However, we must see how far other countries are willing to cooperate.”
Sayed Muqaddam Amin, a military affairs analyst, commented on regional security cooperation: “The ways that can impact regional security, border safety, national stability, and the prevention of smuggling require joint collaboration among countries.”
The Interior Ministry’s assurance of regional and international security cooperation comes as Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister had earlier called for the establishment of a direct communication channel between the intelligence agencies of Kabul and Tehran.
