Afghan U-17 Futsal Team Makes History in Bahrain

Afghanistan’s Under-17 national futsal team made history at the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain with a brilliant performance, reaching the semi-finals and sparking joy and enthusiasm among fans and citizens across the country.
During the tournament, the young Afghan futsal players:

Defeated Uzbekistan 10–2 in their first match,
-
Crushed the host nation Bahrain 7–0 in the second,
-
And last night, beat China 4–1 in their third group-stage match.
Abdulmalik Kohistani, a Kabul resident, said: “They’ve defeated strong teams. We hope for more victories and stand with the players.”
With three consecutive wins, the Afghan U-17 team advanced to the semi-finals and is set to face Thailand tomorrow in the battle for a silver medal.
Behroz Jafari, head coach of the team, said: “We have one day to rest. We’ll make the most of it and prepare well to face Thailand. Please support us.”
The U-17 players also expressed determination to give their best in the semi-final.
Abbas Haidari, team captain, stated: “Thank God we reached the semi-finals. The team is fully prepared, and we’ll do our best to earn a place on the podium.”
Hamza Qasemi, another team member, said: “Dear countrymen, please pray for us so we can achieve results in the upcoming matches and become champions.”
The 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 began last week in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, where Afghan athletes are competing in more than eight sports disciplines.
So far, Afghanistan has won one silver and three bronze medals in Kurash and MMA events.
