As winter approaches, a number of migrants deported from neighboring countries, including Iran and Pakistan say they have been forcibly expelled without proper preparation and now face an uncertain future.
They are calling on the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and humanitarian organizations to urgently provide shelter, winter aid, and access to basic services.
Jamal, a deportee from Iran, told TOLOnews: “We have no jobs and no income. I have four or five children and no resources whatsoever, not even proper clothing for them. It would be very helpful if the government could support deported migrants, especially now with winter approaching.”
Not only children, but also adults in the camps are burdened with despair and uncertainty.
Rahmatullah, another deportee from Pakistan, said: “I have no place to rent and no other belongings. Even where I used to live was a rented space.”
Sher Alam, a deportee from Iran, said: “If there’s no work, I’ll be forced to return illegally with my family. I don’t have a place to sleep or any food supplies.”
While the number of deported migrants is increasing daily, officials say they are making preparations to address the situation.
Abu Laith, a security official at the Baba Jan Brigade Camp, said: “The weather is getting colder, but we’ve made preparations. Blankets, tents, and other supplies are ready. However, these people will not stay here long, they will soon be relocated.”
With the wave of deportations continuing, it remains unclear how long these temporary camps can meet the growing needs of these families, especially with winter just around the corner.
