Afghanistan, due to its location on Asia’s earthquake belt, is constantly exposed to the risk of natural disasters.

The lack of warning systems and the low level of public awareness often result in casualties and damages.

After the deadly earthquake in Kunar, a group of young people in Kunduz developed software that provides detailed information about earthquakes, predicts the occurrence of recent tremors, and shows on a map the areas that are under threat of seismic activity.

Abdul Rahman Popal, the company’s CEO, said: “This application provides people with detailed information about earthquakes and gives guidance before and after they occur. Fortunately, the app is now available on Play Store and App Store.”

The software developer, Nooruddin Rahmani, also said: “We call on the government to support innovative young people so they can achieve more success for the people and the country.”

Several residents of Kunduz expressed happiness about the development of this application, saying that this initiative by young people is an effective step toward raising awareness and preparedness against earthquakes, and can play an important role in reducing casualties and damages.

A resident of Kunduz, Janan Nekmal, said: “Afghanistan is a country where earthquakes often occur. We recently learned that Afghan engineers have created software that detects earthquakes and helps us stay prepared.”

The developer of the software in Kunduz, Ahmad Mukhtar Rashidi, said: “This helps citizens during and after an earthquake, guiding them on what actions to take to keep themselves and their families safe.”

Officials say the application is now available for users on Play Store and App Store, and they are working to release more advanced versions of the app in the near future.
