The spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior has announced that during a meeting between Mohammad Nabi Omari, First Deputy Minister of Interior, and Richard Lindsay, the UK’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, both sides emphasized strengthening cooperation and building sustainable relations.

According to Abdul Mateen Qani, the two discussed the current situation in Afghanistan and the region, and reiterated the UK’s continued humanitarian aid and support for Afghan refugees through the United Nations.

Qani stated: “The two sides exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan and the region. They also highlighted the UK’s humanitarian assistance and support for Afghan refugees via the UN. In conclusion, both parties underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation and maintaining lasting relations.”

Experts in international relations view Richard Lindsay’s visit as a positive step in improving ties between Kabul and London.

Sangar Amirzada, an international relations analyst, said: “The UK has consistently sought to maintain an active presence in Afghanistan. My assessment is that in the near future, it will elevate its diplomatic representation and station more representatives in the country.”

Meanwhile, in a separate meeting with the Deputy Minister of Economy, the UK’s special envoy noted that his country has spent 16 billion Afghanis in Afghanistan under humanitarian projects, with the largest portion allocated to the health sector.

Abdul Latif Nazari, the Technical Deputy Minister of Economy of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, said: “In our meeting with the UK’s special representative, we emphasized continued support for returning refugees, as well as boosting economic and trade cooperation.”

The meeting between the UK envoy and the First Deputy Minister of Interior took place a day after the UK’s Political Office for Afghanistan and Pakistan announced that Mr. Richard Lindsay’s discussions would focus on regional stability, humanitarian assistance, internet access, and the rights of women and girls in Afghanistan.
