The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan says that Islamabad expects a clear monitoring mechanism to be established at the October 25 meeting between Afghanistan and Pakistan in Istanbul to address its security concerns.

The ministry’s spokesperson stated that while Islamabad is not seeking to escalate tensions, Afghanistan must remain committed to its counterterrorism obligations.

Tahir Hussain Andrabi, the spokesperson for Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, added: “Pakistan does not seek escalation but urges the Afghan Taliban authorities to honor their commitment to the international community and address Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns by taking verifiable action against terrorist entities including FAK, TTP, FH and BLA.”

While the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has not recently commented on the upcoming Istanbul meeting, its defense minister had earlier stated that the meeting would focus on the implementation of the Doha Agreement.

Hanif Khan Karokhail, a political analyst, commented on the meeting: “Both countries must refrain from interfering in each other’s internal affairs and avoid creating challenges for one another so that these two neighboring Muslim nations can maintain a brotherly relationship.”

A temporary ceasefire agreement between Afghanistan and Pakistan was signed in Doha, brokered by Qatar and Turkey, following eight days of intermittent clashes. It remains to be seen whether the next meeting will lead to a lasting ceasefire and resolution of ongoing issues.
