Special envoys from China and the United Kingdom have held talks with officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, focusing on recent tensions and the establishment of a ceasefire between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

During the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Finance and Administration at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Pakistan has tested the patience of the Islamic Emirate over the past four years, eventually prompting Kabul to respond in kind.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the Islamic Emirate remains committed to resolving issues through dialogue.

Zia Ahmad Takal, head of public relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said: “Yue Xiaoyong, the Chinese envoy, stated that China hopes to strengthen long-term relations with Afghanistan based on mutual respect and that it respects Afghanistan’s sovereignty and values.”

On the British side, the UK’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, in a meeting with the Minister of Refugees and Repatriation, welcomed the recent agreement between Kabul and Islamabad and expressed hope for continued joint efforts toward achieving a permanent ceasefire.

Richard Lindsay told Mawlawi Abdul Kabir that, due to the return of migrants and natural disasters, Afghanistan’s need for humanitarian aid has increased.

Abdul Mutalib Haqqani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, added: “In this meeting, Richard Lindsay, the UK’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, praised the ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan and expressed hope that it would be sustained.”

The British envoy also held meetings with other officials of the Islamic Emirate, including Nooruddin Turabi, Director General of the National Disaster Management Authority.

These meetings between the special envoys of China and the UK with the Islamic Emirate, focusing on the ceasefire between Kabul and Islamabad, come as a new round of talks between Afghanistan and Pakistan is expected to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, within the next two days.
