Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, has rejected concerns about the presence of armed groups in Afghanistan, stating that these groups have been suppressed in the country.
Qani added that the ISIS group was curbed in the early years of the Islamic Emirate’s rule to the extent that it now has no physical or public presence.
Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, said: “In the first and second years of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, [ISIS] was controlled in such a way that today, they have no physical or visible presence.”
Meanwhile, amid the mass return of refugees from neighboring countries and concerns over the possible infiltration of terrorist elements among them, the Interior Ministry spokesperson assured that strict border monitoring is in place.
He added that biometric systems are being used to identify returnees and prevent the entry of suspicious individuals, and that the entire returnee vetting process is under control.
The spokesperson also stated: “Our security forces are closely monitoring the country’s borders. We filter them through a biometric security system. We are concerned about this, but thanks to God, we are confident that the procedures are going well. There is 100% security in Afghanistan today, which is unparalleled.”
Yousuf Amin Zazi, a military affairs analyst, said: “Countering terrorism is not only the responsibility of the people of Afghanistan; it also has regional and global dimensions. More focus should be given to these regional and global aspects.”
The Ministry of Interior’s remarks come as neighboring countries have repeatedly expressed concerns about the presence of terrorist groups and the use of Afghan territory against them.
