A high-level delegation from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, led by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, along with a Turkmen delegation headed by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, the National Leader of Turkmenistan, visited the implementation site of the TAPI project inside Afghanistan today (Monday, October 20).

Mr. Baradar described the TAPI project as a significant step toward regional cooperation, economic integration, and shared prosperity, adding that the project has already advanced 14 kilometers inside Afghanistan.

He emphasized that the Islamic Emirate’s vision goes beyond TAPI, aiming to expand the broader economic corridor between Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.

In a statement, the Deputy PM’s office noted: “This corridor includes major projects such as the TAP-500 power transmission line, railway construction, road building, logistics centers, and other economic initiatives—projects to which the Islamic Emirate is fully committed in terms of implementation, security, and sustainability.”

Mullah Baradar also called on Turkmenistan and all international partners to seize the current investment opportunities in Afghanistan and contribute to the country’s development.

During the meeting, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow described the relationship between Kabul and Ashgabat as beneficial and expanding, and thanked the Islamic Emirate for its full cooperation in implementing this key regional project.

Berdimuhamedow stated that the TAPI project is one of Turkmenistan’s top priorities and will play a constructive role in ensuring regional economic stability.

According to the Deputy PM’s office, he added: “The current conditions are ideal for implementing TAPI, which remains the only regional project enjoying global support.”

The National Leader of Turkmenistan further noted that his country is committed to completing the project on schedule, and that Afghanistan is expected to earn approximately one billion dollars annually in revenue from it.

At the end of the visit, the Afghan Deputy PM urged neighboring countries to pursue mutual respect-based relations with Afghanistan instead of confrontation and counterproductive actions, and to view national sovereignty, dignity, and peoples of all countries without contempt.
