Following Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit to India, Pakistani officials have accused Afghanistan of acting as India’s representative and cooperating with Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Islamabad claims that the recent attacks on Pakistan were carried out from Afghan soil with India’s support.
Tensions between the two countries further escalated after Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, visited India. Pakistani officials, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, alleged in interviews with Pakistani media that Afghanistan has become India’s proxy and that New Delhi is launching attacks on Pakistan through Afghanistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said: “When the attack on Pakistan happened, Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi was in New Delhi. You’ve seen those pictures in the news. That’s why we had to respond. Later, they called for a ceasefire.”
Political analyst Zalmai Afghan Yar commented: “Every country has the right to establish relations based on its national interests. If Afghanistan has ties with India, those are bilateral and not hostile. But Pakistan’s policy toward Afghanistan and the region is hostile.”
Pakistani officials’ reaction is not limited to the growing ties between Kabul and New Delhi. They have also claimed that the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is operating against Pakistan on behalf of Kabul.
Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif stated: “Now TTP represents Kabul, and Kabul represents India. In reality, Pakistan’s borders are under India’s control from both sides.”
Meanwhile, TTP leader Noor Wali Mehsud said in a video message that he is in the tribal areas.
He stated: “Thank God, I am on my own land, the land of the tribal areas. It is a land of great honor and proud people.”
Pakistan’s discontent over Amir Khan Muttaqi’s visit to India comes despite Muttaqi stressing during his trip that the Islamic Emirate, based on a balanced policy, does not make enemies with one country in order to be friends with another.
