Several residents of Kabul have voiced concerns over the rising costs of visas and flight tickets to Pakistan and Iran.
They say it has become extremely difficult to obtain visas for their patients. Citing the needs of patients and students, these citizens are calling for lower visa and ticket prices for Afghans.
Sajid Hejran, a Kabul resident, said: “Proper treatment is not available inside Afghanistan, so people need to get visas, but visa prices have become very high, and patients cannot receive timely medical care.”
Mohammad Naeem, another resident of Kabul, added: “The visa is very expensive, and poor people cannot afford it. Even if they can, a one-year visa costs nearly $1,000.”
The head of the ticket sellers’ union also said that the cost of Pakistani visas has increased due to recent tensions and clashes between the two countries. He called for the resumption of Pakistan’s visa services for Afghan citizens. He also attributed the rise in Iranian visa costs to the forced deportation of large numbers of Afghan migrants from that country.
Ahmad Siyar Rahimi, head of the ticket sellers’ union, said: “I hope the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan resumes its services so that our patients in Afghanistan who need visas can obtain them easily.”
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, confirming the rise in ticket prices, said it has advised Ariana Afghan Airlines and Kam Air to sell flight tickets at fixed prices.
Hekmatullah Asifi, spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, stated: “We acknowledge the complaints of citizens and have issued strict instructions to Ariana Afghan and Kam Air regarding this matter.”
This comes as many citizens had previously complained about the increasing cost of flight tickets.
