Taliban executed a man in public Thursday in Badghis province, carrying out a qisas sentence in front of spectators at a stadium in Qala‑e‑Naw.
According to a statement by the Taliban’s Supreme Court, the individual was identified as Ismail from Jawand district. He was convicted of fatally shooting a woman, Gulbarga, and a man, Dost Mohammad, in his home district. The court said the case went through three tiers of Taliban judicial review—primary, appellate and supreme courts—and the execution was approved by the supreme leader.
The statement added that the victims’ families were offered a chance to pardon him, but declined, leading to the sentence’s implementation. The court did not provide details on how the execution was carried out.
