Nearly two months after the deadly earthquake in Kunar province, humanitarian aid from neighboring, regional, and international countries continues to reach those affected by the disaster.
In the latest development, the Sultanate of Oman has allocated 100 tons of humanitarian aid for earthquake victims. The first shipment arrived today at Kabul airport and was handed over to the officials of the Islamic Emirate.
Sharafuddin Muslim, Deputy Minister of Planning and Policy at the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, said: “They have donated more than 100 tons of aid, which will be delivered in ten aircraft. So far, one plane has arrived, carrying ten tons of both food and non-food items.”
Officials from the Islamic Emirate emphasized that the aid will be distributed transparently to the earthquake victims in Kunar.
The head of the earthquake relief committee noted that, with the onset of winter and the widespread destruction of homes in the province, the process of reconstruction has begun, with efforts underway to complete it as quickly as possible.
Sharafuddin Muslim further said: “Shelter is a fundamental necessity that we must provide. In most of our meetings with charity organizations, institutions, and foreign partners, we raise this issue because it’s a serious problem we are facing.”
According to economic experts, under current conditions, immediate assistance to earthquake victims should be a top priority for the government, and aid must be distributed fairly and reach those in genuine need.
Mir Shakeeb Mir, an economic analyst, stated: “Delivering aid to families affected by the earthquake in eastern provinces is a vital and moral responsibility. With winter approaching, the absence of proper shelter will only worsen their situation.”
Previously, several countries—including China, Iran, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the European Union, the UAE, Qatar, India, and Pakistan—have also sent humanitarian aid to the victims of the recent earthquake in Afghanistan.
