Taliban and Pakistani forces clashed Wednesday morning in Paktika province, marking the latest in a series of violent confrontations along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border, local sources told Amu.
The fighting erupted in the Qamaruddin Gate and Khan Mohammad Gate areas of Terwo district and was ongoing as of midday. No details were immediately available on casualties.
The clash came hours after heavy fighting between Taliban border forces and Pakistani troops at the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar province. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said 12 civilians were killed and more than 100 others injured in that confrontation, which began around 4 a.m. and lasted several hours.
Mujahid accused Pakistani forces of initiating the Spin Boldak clash and said Taliban fighters responded by capturing several border posts. He also claimed that Pakistani military installations in the area were damaged, though he did not provide figures for Pakistani casualties.
