Taliban announced that a ceasefire with Pakistan began at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, following a request from Pakistan.
The announcement comes after several days of intense cross-border clashes in the south and eastern Afghanistan, including in Kandahar and Paktika provinces.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said all Taliban forces have been instructed to observe the ceasefire unless provoked by Pakistani forces.
Pakistani media reported that the ceasefire has taken place at the request of Taliban.
Quoting Pakistani officials, Reuters has reported that the ceasefire will continue for 48 hours. Taliban have not commented on the duration of the ceasefire.
