Border clashes between Taliban forces and Pakistani troops continued Wednesday across four districts in Afghanistan’s southeastern Paktika province, local sources told Amu.
The fighting began early Wednesday morning, Oct. 15, and has spread across multiple areas, with both sides reportedly using light and heavy weapons, according to residents and local sources.
Residents of Terwo district, previously considered relatively secure, said it has now turned into a frontline in the intensifying border conflict.
Earlier in the day, Taliban and Pakistani forces also clashed in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said 12 civilians were killed and more than 100 others wounded after Pakistani troops allegedly opened fire around 4 a.m. The fighting continued for several hours.
Mujahid claimed Taliban forces responded by capturing several Pakistani border posts and inflicting casualties, though he did not provide specific figures.
Pakistani officials have not commented on the Taliban’s claims.
