Local officials in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province say that today (Wednesday) around 4:00 p.m., Pakistan launched an attack on the Spin Boldak commissariat, which was met with a response from Afghan security forces.

According to the officials, after five hours of fighting, the clashes stopped at Pakistan’s request.

Ali Mohammad Haqmal, the head of information and culture in Spin Boldak district, said: “The fighting stopped because the Mujahideen inflicted a heavy defeat on them. The Mujahideen carried out effective attacks against the Pakistani forces, putting them in a state of emergency and worsening their situation. That’s why they requested to stop the fighting.”

Neda Mohammad, a security officer, said: “They have many wounded and also dead. Two of their bodies are still in the commissariat. Our Mujahideen crossed over and brought back the bodies.”

The main victims of the conflict were civilians. More than 80 wounded and around 20 bodies from the battlefield were transferred to the Spin Boldak district hospital, all of them civilians.

Akhtar Jan Barak, head of the Spin Boldak hospital, said: “We received 80 wounded, including women and children. Among them, 10 to 15 people were martyred. Some are here, and others have been sent to Mirwais Hospital.”

Saifuddin, one of the injured, said: “I was moving through the crowd caused by the fighting when I was wounded.”

A resident of Spin Boldak, who lost family members in the clashes, said that Pakistani forces targeted civilians and civilian facilities in various parts of the district.

Haji Sadiq, one of the victims of the incident, said: “A shell hit my cousin’s son’s house, his son and wife were martyred, and three or four of their children were wounded. Shells also hit other houses. One of our neighbors was also martyred.”

Ismatullah, an eyewitness, said: “The fighting started around four o’clock. The first shells were fired from the Pakistani side.”

Due to the fighting, the Chaman–Spin Boldak gate has been closed to all movement. Out of fear, people have moved their families to safer areas, and the district’s marketplace was closed during the clashes.
