Salang Pass to close for 10 days for repairs, Taliban say

The Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works says the Salang Pass will be closed to all traffic for 10 days starting Oct. 19, due to repair work inside the Salang Tunnel.

Taliban spokesman for the ministry, Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, said in a statement on X that concrete and asphalt work is scheduled during this period, and travelers should use the Doshi-Bamiyan route as an alternative.

The Salang Pass is a key highway that connects nine northern provinces to Kabul and to eastern, southern and western parts of Afghanistan.

Some citizens say the closure will create serious problems, citing difficulties along the Bamiyan-Doshi road. They have called on the Taliban authorities to provide a safer and more reliable alternative route.
